The death of Nipsey Hussle shook Los Angeles, and although it took only happened three months ago, it feels like we’re still reeling from the loss. We are nowhere near forgetting. Murals and attire depicting Nipsey’s unique angular face are everywhere.
Sunday night’s moving BET Awards tribute to Hussle reopened the sense of loss for many. It reminded us of this stellar WorldStarHipHop original documentary, which lays out in detail, and with incredible archival footage, the arc of Nipsey’s rise.
“Ten years ago I used to be a smoker bro, I used to sit right here, chopping up rocks, smoking 3 and 4 in the morning,” says one Slauson resident early in the doc, who ended up working for Hussle. “He never turned me down. He always looked out for me.”
