A Friday morning shooting at Highland High School in Palmdale left one 14-year-old student injured and another 14-year-old arrested.
Authorities responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 7 am. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said they arrested the suspect, also a student, and confiscated the weapon. Officials did not say what kind of gun was used.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies later lifted the lock-down and students were being reunited with families. The LASD said the shooting victim was hit in the arm. The victim was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

The incident rattled nerves in the Palmdale area, amid a national heightened debate over issues surrounding access to guns and gun violence on campus. Rumors of a shooting at another school turned out to be unconfirmed.
In March, thousands of L.A. area students walked out in protest of gun violence as part of a nationwide movement.

Friday’s shooting is the second in a few months at an L.A. area school campus. In February, a gun discharged from a 12-year-old girl’s backpack at Sal Castro Middle School in Westlake, injuring five people, two whom were hit with a bullet.
