Photo Album ~ Vhils in Los Angeles, Carving on Walls

Portuguese artist VHILS (AKA Alexander Farto) was in Los Angeles last month, the second time in the past decade that the international street artist has graced our city with some of his work. Unique in the field of street art, Vhils does not paint on walls, he carves on them. His sculptural work involved hours of shaving, chipping, and cutting walls to create three-dimensional portraits that look like natural decay. This time he was in town for a solo show at Over the Influence in the Arts District, but he also was able to add a few new works to the city’s streetscape, including two collaborations with LA’s two most famous street artists, Retna and Shepard Fairey (Obey).
